Chaplaincy Support Officers (CSOs)
Chaplaincy Support Officers have the privilege of serving the needs of chaplains in over 90 schools and colleges throughout the state, ensuring they have the support and the resources to do their work effectively.
Our role is to strengthen the partnership between schools and principals, Local Chaplaincy Committees, churches, communities and SU, ensuring that guidelines, structures and policies are in place in each school to enable chaplains to do their wonderful work of supporting all members of your local school community.
Chaplains are often put on the spot in crisis situations where they need to rely on God's grace and provision as well as the training they've received. Recently a primary school was grieving the sudden death of a grade 2 boy. This school does not have a chaplain so the principal arranged with a neighbouring high school for their chaplain to come and speak with her staff. The chaplain is a very special and unique person in their school community. A primary school chaplain recently said to her CSO...."a teacher said to me this week I've never met a Christian like you before, and I thought to myself, wow what an awesome responsibility this chaplain role is!" CSOs work with the rest of SU's field staff to equip and train chaplains for extra-curricular activities as well as their in-school work.

Administrative Team
The Admin Team work to support the ministries Scripture Union carries out throughout the state. In 2010 the SU Admin Team will consist of the equivalent of 3.4 fulltime staff. Over half of the team (1.9 fulltime equivalent) are fully funded and provide admin for chaplaincy, leaving less than 10% of SU's total expenses on admin wages outside of chaplaincy. The remaining staff (1.5 fulltime equivalent) are eagerly supporting other SU ministries through receipting and processing donations; managing correspondence (including mail, email and phone); communications (including publications like SU News); Public Relations; accounts reporting and management; Human Resources Management and ChildSafe management and training. The Admin Team is based at the SU Office: 23 Clarence St, Bellerive

VOLUNTEER WORKERS
There are many key volunteers who donate significant amounts of time every week to SU and a host of "casual" volunteers all over Tasmania - in Schools programs (SUPA & COP), camps & SU offices.
Jargon Buster
An explanation of SU jargon which may appear from time to time ...
CSO = Chaplaincy Support Officer
LCC = Local Chaplaincy Committee
COP = Christian Option Program
SUPA = Scripture Union Primary Age club
Scripture Union is a non-profit organisation that manages and organises the resources to spread God's Good News. You will see from this page that there are a number of employed part-time or full time staff workers and chaplains. The bulk of our work, however, is carried out by the large number of volunteers whose names don't appear here.

Adopt your local school in prayer.
