About Christian Option        What is SUPA?

Christian Option - What is it?

The main thrust of our schools work is the Christian Option Program. Teams consisting mostly of trained volunteers work in schools at the invitation of the school after Scripture Union has contacted the school and offered the program. In our preparation and negotiations with schools, we make every effort to fit the program in with aspects of the current Health and Wellbeing curriculum used by Tasmanian schools.

The Christian Option short courses happen during class time and are designed to give the Christian perspective on a topic chosen by the school. The schools where Christian Option Programmes have run in the past see them as immensely valuable in giving the students the opportunity to explore issues from a different point of view. In a school recently we were presenting a programme called "one in all in” which looked at the importance of including everyone in school activities. One of the teachers made the comment that it was really helpful to her to have a number of other adults interacting with the children to reinforce the ideas that she wanted to promote in her class room.

Scripture Union Primary Age

  • A SUPA Club is a group of primary age children who meet regularly to learn about Jesus and the Christian life.

  • The club usually meets on school premises at a time appropriate to the school community. Attendance is voluntary.

  • The group meets under the leadership of a team of local Christians appointed by SU, with the agreement of the school principal.

  • A SUPA Club is more about sharing Jesus through relationships with children than running a particular program.

  • Activities may include stories, games, singing, drama, prayer & social events.
